Farm 215 is part of the Walkerbay Fynbos Conservancy, the natural area stretching from Baardskeerdersbos in the East to the Stanford Estuary in the West.
The conservancy has established itself as a committed and forward thinking conservation group to conserve over 20 000 hectares of threatened lowland Fynbos and Forest. Custodians to an amazing diversity of fauna and flora in a region of exceptional beauty, the members of the Conservancy have set about securing the long-term conservation status of the area.
The Cape Floral Kingdom (CPK) is a global biodiversity asset, and is the smallest of the world’s six floral kingdoms as well as the only one that can be found entirely within one country. It is home to more types of indigenous plants than any similar-sized area on Earth.
The Conservancy co-ordinates and manages clearing of alien invasive vegetation and the restoration of the area, which includes vast tracts of endangered habitat, to its natural state. Over 1000 plant species have been recorded in the Conservancy. The conservancy is also home to 106 bird species, 30 mammals, 46 reptiles, 22 amphibians and a wide diversity of insects.
