ON THE RESERVE

Swim

On a hot summer’s day, there’s nothing more refreshing than visiting our terrace to take a dip in our 25m long lap pool filled with nutrient-rich, golden mountain water. Soak up the sun and take in the views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Uilkraal valley.

Hike

Pull on your hiking boots, grab a bottle of water, and set off on our clearly marked, 3 hour long hiking trail to meet the flora and fauna of the Overberg. It’s an easy-to-moderate hike for those with a little experience under their belt.

Walk

Of our countless beautiful spaces to meander, a must-see is our forest, one of the official reforestation sites of South African Reforestation Trust. We remove alien vegetation and plant indigenous trees to support a flourishing ecosystem. You can also plant a tree here!

Bike

For the adventure seekers, don’t forget your trusty bicycle, because our Mountain Bike routes will give you the ups and downs you’re looking for. Expect views. Expect uncharted terrain.

Ride

What better way to take in the scenery than on a horse ride? Our partner, the African Horse Company, can take you on a journey through our 800 hectare reserve. Bookings should be made before arrival, so get in touch to chat.

Bird

Bird-watchers, rejoice! The Overberg has over 300 species of birdlife from the large Blue Crane, South Africa’s national bird, to the small Cape Sugarbird. The rare Cape Eagle Owl and Black Harrier both have raised chicks on the reserve for several consecutive years.

IN THE AREA

Whale

From July ‘til December, the Walker Bay area is one of the best land-based spots in the world to see whales from the shore, as they spend their time at the coast to mate, give birth, and raise their young.

Boat

Why not book a whale watching boat tour? Or outside of the whale season, go on an eco-marine trip along Dyer Island to see the African Penguin Colony or Geyser Rock, home to 60,000 Cape Fur Seals?

Beach

Long and pristine, Pearly Beach and Franskraal Beach are naturally protected and safe for swimming. It’s the perfect setting for long summer days and beautiful walks. A short drive from the reserve.

Bike

Once you’ve done the Mountain Bike Trails on Farm215, give Klipspringer Mountain a go. The 30km custom built trail starts and finishes at Lomond Wine Farm. It takes riders through the vineyards and up into magnificent fynbos. The climb is tough, but the views are worth it.

Wine

Sip on some of the best local wines at our neighbours, Lomond Wine Estate, or do the Giant Periwinkle Wine Tasting at Baardskeerdersbos. While it’s not far from the reserve, we can help arrange transport if planned in advance, so you can enjoy your drinks!

Art

If you’re in the area at the right time, you must stop in and take in the wonders of the Baardskeerdersbos Art Route, when Baardskeerdersbos comes to life with creativity from the region.

Walk

Platbos hosts an easy trail for young and old to discover this relic forest, with trees estimated to be over 1000 years old. Booking is a must, as the number of walkers is limited to minimize impact on the ecosystem.
