Horse riding


Farm 215 is the base station of the African Horse Company. Apart from more-day horse-trails, outrides of a few hours to a day are on offer from farm 215. Beach rides along Wlaker Bay can however also be organized by the Afican Horse Company from a farm in Stanford.
Guides are experienced riders and have great expertise of the local history, culture and nature.

Hiking trails - fynbos walks


Several shorter and longer trails on the 800 hectares of farm 215. Walk by yourself with a map or ask for our guide, specialised in the botanical features of the Overberg.

Heidehof medicinal walks


Opposite the entrance of farm 215 is Heidehof, a commercial fynbos-flower-farm and a nature reserve. Endangered limestone fynbos species. Matthia Schwiegler, guide and specialist on the medicinal use of fynbos plants, guides guests around by appointment.

Platbos - Southernmost indigenous forest of the African continent


The Southernmost indigenous forest of the African continent. Ancient, pristine and rare indigenous forest remnant. There are clearly marked trails and the owners can guide you around as well.

4X4 trails


Trails through pristine fynbos, indigenous and ancient forest and to the top of the Franskraal mountains.

Massage


Treatment / massage by trained masseur can be arranged in the privacy of your private quarters.

Strandveld Museum


A little gem at the cliffs of Franskraal. A private historical museum with the biggest collection of relics from the famous HMS Birkenhead.

Birdwatching


On farm 215 and in the area there are numerous perfect spots to see birds in different habitats. Especially the area around the estuary near Stanford and the numerous wetlands on the Agulhas plains are famous birding hotspots. Specialised bird guides can be arranged.

Klipgat trail


Hiking trail along the coast from Gansbaai harbour to the beginning of the Walker Bay Nature Reserve.

Klipgat cave


One of the 6 finding places in the world of the oldest remains modern man (est 80'000 years old). In Walker Bay Nature Reserve; many, many steps down to a cove and a climb into the cave itself.

Sandberg fynbos reserve


Accredited tour guide Gerhard van Deventer shows you around Sandberg and the rare flora of the Geelkop Nature Reserve near Elim.

Pearly Beach | Jessies Bay


Undisturbed never-ending and empty sand beaches.

Whale watching (land-based)


From the cliffs of De Kelders, Southern right whales continuously cruise up and down just a few metres from shore (between August and December).

Whale watching (boat based)


Dyer Island Cruises arranges boat-tours from Kleinbaai through whale infested waters to Dyer Island and Geyser Rock, home of thousands of Cape fur seals, African penguins and other sea birds.

Vineyards


Farm 215 is located in the newest wine region of South Africa, the Agulhas Wine Region. Due to the specific soils and the cool breeze coming from the ocean at night, some fabulous wines are produced in this region. Not only by our neighbour, Lomond wine estate, but also by the vineyards closer to Elim, such as Black Oystercatcher wines, Zoetendal wines, The Berrio, Lands End, Agulhas Wines and Quoin Rock. Not much further away are the more traditional wine areas around Stanford and in the Hemel en Aarde Valley near Hermanus. Many of the vineyards can be visited and are open for the public for wine-tasting.

Shark diving


Several boat cage-diving operators leave from Kleinbaai on Danger Point Peninsula to the seas between Pearly Beach and Buffeljags Bay, home of the Great white shark.

Franskraal Milkwood trail


A small but interesting trail through milkwood thicket next to the coastal town of Franskraal.

Swimming


In the estuary of Uilkraalsmond and protected coves and tidal pools in De Kelders and Franskraal.

Scuba diving


Experienced diving operators in Gansbaai.

Walker Bay Nature Reserve


The 25 km coastal stretch and hiking trail between the Hermanus Lagoon and Gansbaai. Entrance from De Kelders.

Danger Point Lighthouse


At the tip of the Peninsula. The lighthouse is open for the public, but has the oddest opening hours.

Flower Valley


Established as a Unesco project, it is now a commercial flower farm and a pilot-project for sustainable harvesting of field flowers for the Agulhas Biodiversity Project.

Elim


A local guide will take you through this old and unspoilt mission village and show you the working water mill, church and other monumental buildings.

Stanford


Charming Victorian village next to the Klein River, a paradise for birds and birders and it has some very good restaurants.

De Hoop Nature Reserve


Breeding grounds of the Southern Right Whales and home to numerous bigger and smaller animal species.

Bredasdorp shipwreck museum


Pictures the tragedies of the numerous ships that wrecked along the shores of the Overberg during the ages.

Cape Agulhas


Southern-most point of the African continent and meeting place of the Atlantic and Indian Ocean.

Agulhas National Park


Sanctuary of hundreds of rare and localised plant-species and the future home of all the animals that once roamed the Agulhas Plains.

Napier


Peaceful Overberg town en route to Bredasdorp.

Arniston (Waenhuiskrans)


Old traditional fishing town on a pristine beach near a small nature reserve with a huge cave which can only be accessed at low tide.

Salmonsdam Nature Reserve


Mountain catchment area in the hinterland with some spectacular waterfalls.

Blue Crane Route


In the Overberg wheat fields, flocks of the national bird of South Africa can be seen in winter.
